Removing a default from credit file?

Hi All,

i have a great credit history except for a default incurred last september for £800 with Lloyds TSB. Thi has been satisfied extremely quickly but my chances of getting a mortgage or slim. Can anyone recoomend anything st all that can be done to remove this or help my credit score grow in a hurry?

Is there a way to remove by paying for early removal? Claims?

For info it was my own fault - an old account from 2003 that was interest free for 5 years and I forgot about it. I moved house a couple of times so I never received the correspondance.
