Hi everyone,
My partner and I were recently denied a mortgage on the grounds that we have not been on the electoral register for over 10 years and have no credit history.
Our jobs have required a huge amount of travel over the past ten years so we have not had permanent addresses and therefore didn't register. We have always stayed away from any kind of debt and this has obviously caused a problem.
My questions are:
If I register on the electoral role from an address that is not my own say for instance, my mother's address - is this legal?
Also would this affect my mother's benefits? I am hardly there so I wouldn't want to get her into trouble or affect her payments/allowances just because I need to register in order to get a mortgage.
Very disappointing that although we have saved a large deposit we are denied a mortgage at this point. Now just uncertain of the next steps to take.
Many thanks Zipp
