Hi Everyone
I think I've got the right forum, but I'm after a bit of advice with regards to our first mortgage payment, which our mortgage provider thinks they have taken, but they haven't!
We recently moved into our first house just before Xmas.
In the first week of January, I checked my bank account to see that a Direct Debit payment had tried to be taken from our mortgage provider for our first payment.
Firtly, this was the wrong bank account that they tried to take the money from. The payment bounced as the funds were not there, but in another account. (Still not sure how they had the wrong bank account details, but nevermind).
Secondly, we never received any communication from the provider to explain when the first payments were due to be taken, the bank details that they were going to be taking the money from, or the regular monthly amounts that the payments were going to be. The first we knew about the payments was when we checked online to see the failed DD payment.
So we contacted the provider immediatley and explained the situation. They were unsure as to why we never received any form of communication, but our DD details were changed straight away, and we were told to phone back within 3 working days to make a payment.
To cut a long story short, we have contacted the provider 7 times over a period of 2 and 1/2 weeks. We haven't been able to make our first payment, as their systems are still showing that our failed DD payment has been taken succesfully, and no arrears are on the account! I've double checked with my bank, and it's fine their end - they've confirmed that no payments have been made or taken from my account.
We've been brutally honest with the provider, and explained each time that they couldn't have taken a payment as there were no funds to take a payment from, but they are being adamant that everything is fine, and had a failed payment been made then it would have shown up on their system by now! As far as they are concerned, our next payment is due next month for the regular amount.
I'm not really sure if I should keep contacting them (all records of telephone calls have been made - times, dates, names etc), or wait to see if they will contact us, but as we keep being told each time we phone them that there's no problems, we can't help but feel that we've just been lucky.
We've still got the funds for the first payment, which we were going to keep to one side, in case further down the line it does get noticed, but we're not sure how long to keep hold of it for.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for rambling!
Thanks
