New Job - New Area - Getting a Mortgage?

Hi,

First post, so "please be gentle with me" :o

I have been offered a new job in an area which will require relocation. The new job is in a similar industry requiring the same skills as my current position. The salary offered is just slightly less, but the new area is significantly cheaper than where we are now.

We have been renting for the past eight years, but the new position would allow us to buy :)

The new employer has specifically stated in their offer that the job is not subject to any 'probationary period', so my question is: how favourably would a mortgage application be looked on if made within the first couple of months of starting the new job?
