I loaned out a couple books on buying a house & this was one thing that was mentioned in one of them.
First off, how far back do you need to show?
For the tax year 2012-13 i earned £18.7k which would be quite typical. I would've scraped £19k for the first time had i not had a fortnight off post-op.
However looking at previous years, it's a bit hit & miss.
Beginning around 2007 i had a lot of time off through injuries & operations. These came about from sport activities, which i have since given up. When i say a lot of time off i mean i'm lucky to still be in a job.
The time off impacted so much that in some years i was only earning about £12k gross when it should've been around £18k gross.
The past few years, since i've given up these activities, i've hit some sort of normality.
Just wondered how far back you need to prove? And if i got a note from the employer, & whether it explaining the low income due to sick days, would it go for me (showing it was only low due to sick days, but should've been higher) or against me (this person has had a lot of sick days in the past 5 years = risky)?
