Poor credit history mortgage

Hi all,
7 months after losing my precious husband to cancer, I want to move house. My house is on the market, @£230k and I've found a cottage for £219k but the owner will accept a lower offer of 210k. I have a £9600 mortgage with nationwide, and I'm allowing 10k to move, which will be covered by the profit on my sale, but devastated to learn today that Nationwide are being arsey about porting the mortgage to the new property. I sadly defaulted on Cc's 5 years ago, but my parents gave my money to pay the lot off which I did. I've built my credit score up to 908 which is good, and I've no other credit other than my mortgage and mobile phone. I want to keep the mortgage because I'd like to use the remaining profit to do some renovations. Has anyone else had problems, and do you know the best poor credit mortgage company?
I would be grateful for any advice :)
