Just having a play around with the online calculators of some of the bigger banks/BS's. Not looking to move yet as still have loads of refurbishment to do in my current house, but will probably do something in 12 months time.
It seems that close to 5x salary is back on offer, which I personally find frightening! Details I used are as follows, followed by the 'you could potentially borrow' figures:
30k p.a salary
No monthly debt repayments
No dependents
Single applicant
£50k equity to use as deposit
Santander (my current provider) - £120000
Co-Op - £127500
Natwest - £127500 although they could lend £149700 circumstance dependent
Halifax - £129888
HSBC - £142000
Lloyds TSB: £149000
I thought the crazy days were over and we were back to 4x sole earnings as a maximum!!
